Welcome

Janet Mendell portraitLife is an evolutionary journey of transitions and development. Each of us has a life purpose and challenges to meet.

At times, we feel our  lives are not working. Therapy can provide counseling, support, guidance, and reflection,  giving  tools to cope more effectively, to break old patterns, to find a sense of direction, and to take charge of our lives.

Counseling is an important tool to help process through past events creating difficulties in the present. Through revisiting stories in a safe environment, clients may then re-define their relationships, change life patterns, and move forward in a more satisfying way. As an experienced therapist I am passionate about helping you improve your mental health

My principles and practices in my work include accepting the client’s inner wisdom and inherent thrust towards positive change.

My experience includes therapy with children  from difficult settings including foster and adopted children with attachment disorders. I  utilize play, art, narrative, imagery, and sandtray therapy. I assist  parents in creating a safe environment  utilizing a behavioral model. I taught parenting classes through Mendocino County Department of Social Services and worked with parents as a social worker utilizing a strengths-based approach.

I work with individuals to address stress, separation and divorce, anxiety, depression, grief and loss issues as well as other mental health conditions.

I love my work.

The philosophy of Milton H. Erikson influences my work. I therefore utilize storytelling as a tool, as well as hypnotic suggestion and  a positive expectation of change.

There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. ~ Anais Nin
